Hello My Name Is...

Marlene Oxner

Dear Parents and Students,

¡Bienvenidos! (Welcome!) I am looking forward to getting to know your students and to meeting you sometime soon.  Here is a glimpse of my personal story: This is my 28th year of teaching.  I have taught in Arkansas, Texas, and now in Spring Hill.  This is my 3rd year here at SHHS, and I teach Spanish levels II, III, IV, and V.  I am married to Bill, and we are going on 34 years. We have 3 adult children - Taylor, 30 years; Shelby, 25 years; and Michael, 23 years.  The oldest 2 are married, but we don't have any grands yet (unless you count our grand-puppy Pickles ;))

First, I am excited to have a new and fresh curriculum added for Spanish levels III – V! It will have some review of concepts already learned, but it will be enhanced by new vocabulary and occasional nuances for the grammar.  It will also have lots of new things to explore and an E-text that will provide some great study tools and resources.

Second, I thought you should know a little about what my plans are for this quarter.  The summer is a fantastic time to recharge, but it also tends to be a time to forget some of what students learned last year in Spanish.  For that reason, we will begin with a unit of study based largely on concepts already studied in the previous year(s).  It may or may not have some new things peppered in as well to offer a little challenge and to keep things interesting.  We will focus on review initially, and we will also have review throughout the year to keep our students brushed up on information and ideas already presented.  Hopefully, this review will build confidence as we move forward.

Please note that your student should have received a syllabus, a signature page to return to me, and a list of procedures for the classroom.  It is important that they are very familiar with this information as they will have a multiple-choice quiz over them within the first two weeks of school.  I believe that the students should know my expectations from the beginning so that we can have an orderly, learning-friendly environment in which all students can excel.

Please let me know if you have any questions at any time throughout the school year.  I may be reached at the following:
