SHHS ANNOUNCES THEIR FALL MUSICAL

It’s the very clean show with the not so clean title.

“I don’t think too many people will see this show…the title’s awful,” says show character Little Sally during the show.

Even the show’s tacky title does not escape the sharp satirical treatment that everything receives in this highly intelligent and relevant musical.

Luckily, Little Sally was wrong as the show became one of the most critically acclaimed musicals, garnering 26 award nominations and winning 7 including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score for its Broadway production.  It is produced by high school to professional theatres hundreds of times a year; including by many surrounding high schools.

“Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest.”

“Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.”

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and ability to make audiences think about society, themselves, and theatre itself all between their laughs.

Don’t judge a musical by its admittedly “awful” title and make plans to see Spring Hill High School’s production of this powerful musical November 9th–11th at 7:00pm.  Tickets are general admission, cost $8, and are available at the door the night of each performance.

This show is rated PG and is appropriate for ages 10 and up.
