Hello My Name Is...

Welcome back parents and students. Below I am sharing some information about the courses I teach. All classes I teach are a semester long, so all of my students will have a schedule change second semester. I know all parents want their children to be respectful of the school and classroom environment, critical skill for the workplace or any educational setting beyond high school. Therefore, I have included my classroom rules. If you have questions please contact me at wardj@usd230.org. I have only scheduled at school for the morning half of the day. Be aware, I might not get back with you until the next morning.

Baking and Pastries: All students should have completed Culinary Essentials. Students will be learning about the BAKESHOP in the culinary industry, will learn about the ingredients in baked products and the science behind the preparation and will prepare a variety of baked products. We will plan to have the "Great Bronco Bakeoff" competition sometime during the semester.

Culinary A and B classes are for students who are interested in a career in the culinary industry. Students are already familiar with the kitchen by taking Culinary Essentials but will now learn more in depth about techniques/procedures in the industry as well as food preparation. A focus will be on Safety and Sanitation certification (SERVSAFE).

Human Growth and Development is learning about developmental theory........how we are and why we do the things we do. This will be a basis for future units. Each stage of development will be covered, reverting back to how the theories are applied at that stage. We will spend additional time covering adolescence by using the Relationship Smarts curriculum. Students will be able to explore this stage through their eyes. Relationship skills covered will help students navigate the next stage of their life.

Nutrition and Wellness: Students will learn about what it takes to be healthy. They will be able to evaluate their own personal wellness and consider making changes leading to a healthier lifestyle. Nutrition is the main focus including some practicing some simple food preparation techniques.
