WICHITA -- Four Spring Hill High School Debate teams were among the best in the state of Kansas, competing in the KSHSAA 5A State Debate Championship Jan. 14-15 at Wichita Southeast High School.

It was the first time in three years that Spring Hill has sent Debaters to the state championship. This year, all four teams competing were sophomores.

Students competing included the teams of Benjamin Beckwith and Quinten Vasser; Savannah Bard and Kaitlyn Durham; Luke Torrez and Adiel Garcia; and Taylor Neeck and Max Pacheco.
Teams qualified by earning at least a 0.500 record in four tournaments this year.

At the state tournament, the teams faced stiff competition and gained valuable experience. The teams of Neeck and Pacheco, and Garcia and Torrez, earned two victories, while the teams of Beckwith and Vasser, and Bard and Durham, earned one win. While the teams did not advance to the elimination rounds, the team learned some great lessons to be able to go even further next season, as all four teams have two more years of Debating opportunities ahead of them.
