Manning Named Kansas District 3 Semi-Finalist for Teacher of the Year

Anna ManningSHHS Student Publications and English teacher Anna Manning was selected on Sept. 10 by the Kansas State Department of Education as a semi-finalist for the 2017 Kansas District 3 Secondary Teacher of the Year. 

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program identifies, recognizes, and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. The program's mission is "to build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance, and the teaching profession."

Each school district nominates one elementary and one secondary classroom teacher for the program who meets the following criteria:

- must have completed a minimum of five years as a classroom teacher.

- should be exceptionally skilled, dedicated, and inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.

- have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues and should play an active and useful role in the community and in the school.

- should be poised, articulate and possess the energy to withstand a busy schedule.

- must be committed to serving as a leader in efforts to improve schools, student performance and the teaching profession in Kansas.
