SHHS Winter Sports Attendance PolicyOn Tuesday, December 8th the KSHSAA Board of Directors voted to allow spectators to attend winter events on a VERY LIMITED basis until January 28th, 2021. Below is what was passed:

“All 78 members of the Board of Directors met and with a vote of 54-24, the following language was adopted: Effective Thursday, December 10 through January 28, 2021, interscholastic activities will allow for attendance of up to TWO PARENTS/GUARDIANS PER PARTICIPANT(S) FAMILY as allowed by local board of education or health department restrictions. The current interpretation of PARTICIPANTS includes: Players, Coaches, Student Managers, Cheerleaders, Dance Squad, Pep Bands and Student Journalist who will be PARTICIPATING THAT NIGHT.

In summary, USD230 will be following these guidelines:

Only 2 parents/guardians per participant(s) family will be admitted into winter events. At this time there will be NO STUDENTS ADMITTED. ALSO, admitted parents/guardians WILL NEED TO PRODUCE ID at the gate, that matches what is on the list for admission. We will generate this list from our current Skyward enrollment. If there is a family with more than 2 parents/guardians, all names will be on the list, however, that family will need to work out between themselves, who will be attending what games, as we will only allow 2 to be admitted with ID. No children or students, extended family members, or friends will be allowed. There will be NO EXTRA admittance.

Admission is nontransferable to another family.

No outside food and drinks will be allowed and concessions will not be provided.

Masks are required and must be worn AS INTENDED while in attendance, AT ALL TIMES. Please do not go to your seat and remove your mask. Please exit the building if you need to remove your mask. Social distancing should also be observed by all who attend.

So we have enough space for all parents/guardians to watch their children participate, we ask that once your child’s participation is over for the night that you leave the building immediately and not congregate on the floor or in the commons area or stay for later games/matches/events.

Examples:
Family A has a girl and a boy on each respective basketball team, Family A will be allowed only 2 parents/guardians admission.
Family B has a cheerleader and a pep band member, Family B will be allowed only 2 parents/guardians admission.
Family C has only 1 dance team member, Family C will be allowed only 2 parents/guardians admission.
Family D father shows up to watch his son play on the basketball team and brings his child along, the child will not be allowed admission PER KSHSAA POLICY as only parents/guardians are allowed admission at this time.
Family E parents of a JV player show up to a varsity only tournament, Family E will not be admitted as their child is NOT participating that night.

We will still continue to stream all home games and events for students, parents, and family members who cannot attend in person.

Some of the counties or school districts of our league may have further restrictions for spectators and we will update our parents if there are different requirements when we travel to other schools.

USD 230 understands this frustrating situation that we are all in at this time. We ask for your continued positive support of your kids, our athletes, coaches and programs. Please understand that we need your help and support to ensure our programs are able to have full and complete seasons and that your children are allowed to continue to participate in their respective activities. Failure to follow KSHSAA rules as they are written could jeopardize our ability to continue with the winter activities season. Thank you.
