SPRING HILL, Kan. (November 21, 2025) - Getting involved with Real World Learning can be a new experience for many, and with new experiences comes nerves and doubt. But once students take that first step, they quickly realize how valuable and exciting Real World Learning can be. Here is how RWL has changed the way students at Spring Hill High School think about education thanks to the opportunities that the program opened up for them.

A new community

RWL has helped students connect with not only classmates, but also local employers and mentors with similar interests as them that they may not have known otherwise. “I’ve gained a lot of new friends and explored outside of my comfort zone,” said a student. For many, RWL has opened up the opportunity to join a community of collaborators who strive for excellence and support each other beyond the classroom.

Reduced stress about the future

By receiving hands-on experience now, students have reported feeling much more confident about leaving high school and seeing what lies ahead of them. “Getting involved gives you an opportunity to find your passion and replace that future stress with excitement,” reported a student. “Without it, you risk having worries that could have been greatly reduced.” Whether it's entering a career or earning valuable credentials, students have many anxious thoughts lifted off their shoulders after graduation thanks to RWL.

A Better Understanding of Learning Outside of High School

RWL has helped students embrace learning even after the last bell rings. “I got involved and was able to get a headstart into my future by understanding college curriculums and the rigor of certain classes,” one student said. Through internships, client-connected projects, and community partnerships, students are able to recognize how many lessons taught in the classroom actually apply to their own lives, making education seem much more immersive and exciting.

More career opportunities

RWL opens many doors to opportunities that students may not have been aware of had they not gotten involved. “Through RWL, I was able to get a job as a CNA,” one student said. From networking with local businesses to kickstarting their own careers through internships, RWL gives them that push to success.

A Sense of Independence

With Real World Learning, students take charge of their own growth through presentations, projects, and solving challenges in real life situations.Through this, they gain confidence in their own abilities and are able to apply that knowledge to their lives after high school. “Involving myself into RWL programs has changed me for the better and made me really understand what I want to do,” one student claimed. “Put yourself out there; it may be scary, but you never know where it’ll send you.”
